YOUTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Youth Empowerment Solutions (YES) is a theory-based leadership curriculum for youth ages 11–17. Youth learn to work as a team, complete an assessment of their community, and plan and carry out a community change project with adult partners.
Through the Youth Advisory Committee, youth meet monthly to give input on CYD activities, lead community service projects, and represent youth voice in program decisions.
In partnership with local faith-based youth groups, the YMCA, Scouts, and FFA, youth also take part in Positive Youth Development workshops that build skills in resilience, coping, stress management, conflict resolution, and healthy relationships.
POST-HIGH SCHOOL READINESS
Through workshops, mentoring, and hands-on activities, youth explore career pathways, practice job-seeking skills, and learn about financial aid and college enrollment. Each youth creates an individual readiness plan for education, employment, training, or military pathways, builds a professional resume, and strengthens life skills such as time management and goal setting.
In partnership with the University Center in Montgomery County, youth may also take part in campus tours, career pathway presentations, and workforce exploration activities.

FAMILY ENGAGEMENT
Strong families build strong youth. CYD partners with parents and caregivers as their child's first and most important teacher. Family Engagement Nights bring youth and caregivers together to strengthen communication and connection.
Activities include:
• Team-building games, hands-on STEM and art projects, and guided family discussions
• Resource tables and brief skill-building workshops
• Presentations from community leaders on youth development, safety, and family well-being
• Opportunities to meet program staff and community partners
Families also share feedback that helps shape future CYD activities. Youth Services Advocates provide case management and connect families to services such as housing, mental and behavioral health, substance use treatment, domestic violence and youth advocacy, and employment support.
